Jakob Schwab is an economist and researcher at the German Development Institute (Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik, GDI/DIE). He has received his Ph.D. jointly from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and the Frankfurt Graduate School of Economics, Finance, and Management. He has also been a member of the Gutenberg Academy in Mainz.

Schwab’s research interests lie in the economic interaction between developed and developing countries, with a particular focus on drivers and effects of foreign direct investment and capital flows, their effects on public budgets and growth in developing countries. He also works on the determinants of popular attitudes towards economic globalization and how these differ between the developed and the developing world.
