Kate Wharton is the Chief Operating Officer at Refugee Open Ware (ROW). She is an international development consultant and social intrapreneur. With four years in Deloitte Consulting’s Federal Strategy & Operations practice, Kate works with international donors on water, energy and sustainability issues in emerging markets, including in Jordan, Kenya, and Tanzania. At Deloitte, she co-founded and leads D2international, a social “intraprise” that tests a new business model for leveraging private sector resources for social impact. Kate led teams to develop a monitoring and evaluation system for an indigenous women’s empowerment program in Guatemala, a national social enterprise incubator for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and an elite impact-oriented internship program for Deloitte. She recently led a 4-month, 40-person Fellowship program focused on youth civic engagement in the Middle East. Prior to Deloitte, Kate conducted research using econometrics to assess the impact of internal conflict on education outcomes in Colombia. She also helped establish a national youth volunteering program in Bangladesh that has since grown to over 20,000 members. Kate graduated summa cum laude from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Economics and International Affairs and a minor in Spanish.
